DC Health Professional Loan Repayment Program

HPLRP Application Deadline – January 31, 2012

The DC Department of Health, Community Health Administration’s Primary Care Bureau is now accepting applications for the District’s Health Professional Loan Repayment Program. The HPLRP provides loan repayment to health professionals providing primary care, dental and/or mental health* services in health professional shortage areas (HPSAs) within the District.

Applications for participation will be accepted through January 31, 2012, and the Primary Care Bureau will select up to 15 applicants into the program. New participants must commit to serving for at least two years at a certified HPLRP Service Obligation Site (SOS) and will have 44% of their total eligible loan debt repaid (up to $52,800 for physicians and dentists and up to $29,000 for other eligible health professionals) in exchange. All participants will be eligible to renew their contracts at the end of the initial two-year term — up to a maximum of four years and 100% of eligible debt repaid (up to $120,000 for physicians and dentists and up to $66,000 for other eligible health professionals).

The following professions are eligible for loan repayment in this cycle, with preference given to primary care providers:

• Physicians who have completed post-graduate training in family practice medicine, general internal medicine, general pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, or osteopathic general practice;
• Dentists practicing in general or pediatric dentistry;
• Nurse Midwives and Nurse Practitioners;
• Physician Assistants; and
• Dental Hygienists.
